VAT return deadline: last filing date
Choose your filing period and the year. You will see the date by which your VAT return (btw-aangifte) and your payment are due, with the day of the week.
Your return and payment are due on Saturday 31 October 2026.
| Filing period | 3rd quarter 2026 |
|---|---|
| Deadline for return and payment | Saturday 31 October 2026 |
The Tax and Customs Administration (Belastingdienst) uses fixed dates and does not move them when they fall on a weekend. The return for January 2026, for example, is due on Saturday 28 February 2026. Make sure both your return and your payment arrive by that date. If in doubt, check which date applies to you in Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk.
How to find the date
- The rule is simple: your return and payment are due on the last day of the month after your period.
- If you file monthly for July, everything is due on 31 August.
- If you file quarterly for the third quarter, everything is due on 31 October.
| Quarter | Period | Deadline in 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 1st quarter | January to March | Thursday 30 April |
| 2nd quarter | April to June | Friday 31 July |
| 3rd quarter | July to September | Saturday 31 October |
| 4th quarter | October to December | Sunday 31 January 2027 |
An example. You file quarterly. The third quarter runs from July to September 2026. The next month is October and the last day of October is Saturday 31 October 2026. Your return and your payment are therefore both due on 31 October 2026.

Questions
What if the date falls on a weekend?
The date stays. The Tax and Customs Administration (Belastingdienst) uses fixed dates, even when they fall on a Saturday or Sunday. So arrange your return and your payment on time and do not wait until Monday.
Does the money have to arrive by then too?
Yes. Your return and your payment are both due on the deadline. The money is then in the account of the Tax and Customs Administration (Belastingdienst). If you pay late once but within 7 days, you can avoid a fine if your previous return was on time.
I file once a year. Which date applies to me?
This calculator is for monthly or quarterly filing. If you file once a year, your return and payment are due on 31 March of the next year.
Is what I enter stored?
